The fruit pulp is used for flavoring stews. Inland Cuna use it regularly as a foodstuff. The leaves are applied to reduce inflammation. The seeds are emmenagogic. the juice is used to treat hemorrhoids. The aromatic leaves are used by Choco Indians as an underarm deodorant (!).
